Beyond the Picture

In the year 1974 when his eldest daughter Michala was born, Borislav received from his first wife Eva a poster that she bought during her trip to Canada.

There was a woman sitting on her knees with her back to the camera looking back over her shoulder. She was wearing only a cowboy hat. On her naked body black lines and letters were drawn, describing various sections of meat cuts. In the title we read Break the dull steak habit.

Years later, his second wife Hana found it tucked into a drawer and hung it on a wall above the dining table. Kateřina, the only daughter of Hana and Borislav, Michala's half-sister grew up in this house and dined every day at this table. When she was eleven her parents split up, and she saw the poster moving to another house along with her father.

Borislav passed away suddenly in 2007. His possessions were divided by the family. The poster returned to Eva's hands, who put it on a wall in her house.

Michala will inherit the poster from her mother.

In 2010, Kateřina found a book with information about the poster. It was created in 1973 at Studio One in Norristown, Pennsylvania (USA).
